DIY Tutorial: How To Make A LED Tea Light Cover With Thread In 10 Easy Steps

If you don’t mind getting a little creative then this DIY tutorial for making a flameless battery tea light candle holder with thread (that I found on mycoinpurse.blogspot.com) will be right up your alley. It is really simple and gives a fantastic texture that you are sure to not find anywhere else. These DIY battery operated tea light candle thread holders would be perfect to use at home or at your wedding for something totally unique. Of course you can buy your battery tea light candles straight from us 🙂

So let’s get started!

Materials you will need:

  • Thick thread, yarn or ribbon (Of any colour of your choice or you could do a combination of colours.)
  • Thin cardboard (tip: use something that you’d be recycling anyway like a pasta or cereal box)
  • Wrapping plastic (tip: you could use plastic from a drink six pack)
  • Flameless battery operated tea light candles
  • Sticky tape
  • Fabric stiffener (available at most craft or fabric shops)

Instructions:

1) Cut your cardboard to the desired height you want to make the holder. The width should at minimum be a little wider than the LED battery tea light candle. [ You can make it wider of course ;)] 2) Roll the cut cardboard, tape the edge and make sure you can fit the tea light inside. 3) Cut and wrap the plastic over the cardboard roll & tape it down. 4) Loosely wrap the thread around the cylinder. It should be tight enough so that it will stay in place but loose enough that you will still be able to slide it off fairly easily. 5) Make sure that the edges are as close to perpendicular to the bottom of the roll, otherwise your holder will be tilted. 6) It’s up to you how dense and high you wrap the thread, depending on what you want your end result to be. 7) When ready saturate the wrapped thread with the fabric stiffener & follow the instructions on the bottle for drying. 8) Once you are sure that it is close to being dry, carefully crumble and pull out the cardboard. (trying to not damage the shape of the thread) 9) Once the cardboard has been removed then repeat the same process to remove the plastic. 10) Stick your flameless battery operated tea light candle inside your holder and away you go!
